Women

In SOFA we believe women hold up more than half the sky. From the beginning we have concentrated on women in farming and helped them to raise the income of the household. We started with forming Women Entrepreneurship Groups (as against Self Help Groups) , where women collect or borrow money to multiply their sources of income rather than borrow from their savings to fulfill household expenses or vanity purchases. We now have 45 groups and the membership is 483 women distributed in all our villages.

As orders increased and as power became more uncertain in the villages, we decided to have a central solar powered Production Center in the SOFA campus. But the women did not lose out. Instead we arranged to get them soft loans , so that they shifted to milch animals, goats and chicken rearing to supplement their household income.

Cattle loans

We now have developed a corpus which helps women groups taken loans at low interest to purchase milch animals which help to supplement their daily household incomes. SOFA also runs its own cattle insurance schemes.

Some groups opt for goats or country chicken also.
